Surah Al Waqi’ah is the 56th chapter of the Quran, and it talks about the Day of Judgment. It describes how people will be divided into three groups based on their actions. The Surah starts by saying that its words come from Allah, and it emphasizes that the events it talks about will happen.

 The Surah al waqiah tells a detailed story about what will happen on the Day of Judgment. It explains that some people will go to Paradise, some to Hell, and there will be a special group closest to Allah. This Surah reminds us that our possessions on Earth are temporary, and it highlights the lasting effects of our actions.

 It encourages believers to think about their responsibility and the importance of living a good and fair life. When people read or recite Surah Al-Waqi’ah, they are reminded to think deeply about its messages, find guidance, and try to live by the values of justice, kindness, and goodness taught in the Quran.

This Surah al waqiah has 96 verses divided into 3 Rukus/Sections. It takes its name from verse 1. اِذَا وَقَعَتِ الْوَاقِعَةُ The word “وَاقِعَةُ” mentioned as the Inevitable event that will occur on the Day of Judgement.

They support their claim from the background of Surah Taha that when Umar bin Khattab after hearing about his sister’s embracement of Islam went to his sister’s house in anger and beating his sister and brother in Law then it ended with his asking his sister to give him what she was reciting. Her sister replied,

“None can touch it except the purified, “

There are contradicting traditions for the revelation period of this Surah. Some say that it was revealed in Mecca and some say in Madina or a part of it was revealed in Madina. However, the majority of the commentators think that it is a Meccan Surah.

Thus it shows that this Surah had been revealed even before Surah Taha in Mecca around 6 to 7 years before migration to Madina.

The Surah talks mainly about the Last Day and depicts the whole scenario in a powerful discourse. It states that on the Last Day, all Mankind will be divided into three groups. Then it tells the description and condition of each group -the rewards or punishment they would face.

Abu Ishaq reported that Abu Bakr said,
“O Prophet of God PBUH! You are becoming gray”
The Messenger replied,

شَيْبَتْنِي هُودٌ وَالْوَاقِعَةُ وَالْمُرْسَلَاتُ وَعَمَّ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ وَإِذَا الشَّمْسُ كُوِّرَت

Surah Hud, Waqiah, Mursalat, Naba, and Takwir have made me gray.

In surah al waqiah following things are discussed in detail;

1. The Inevitability of the Day of Judgment: The Surah vividly describes the Day of Judgment, a day when everyone will be held accountable for their actions.A day when we will face our deeds. That day will decide what kind of person we are in the world.
   
2. Three Groups of People: It talks about how people will be divided into three groups based on their deeds: those in Paradise, those in Hell, and a special group near Allah.
   
3. Reflection on Possessions: Surah Waqiah reminds us that worldly possessions are temporary and not as important as our actions and deeds.
   
4. Eternal Consequences: Emphasizes the eternal consequences of our actions, encouraging believers to lead a righteous life. It tells us that whatever we are doing in this world will come in front of us as our sins or rewards.
   
5. Encouragement to Reflect: Believers are encouraged to reflect on their lives, think about their deeds, and seek guidance from the profound truths within the Surah.

Overall, Surah Al Waqiah serves as a powerful reminder of the Hereafter, the importance of our actions, and the need for reflection and righteous living.

Ibn Masood said I have heard the Prophet of God PBUH saying, ‘He who recites Surah Waqiah every night, Poverty or Need will never afflict him.” This is the reason; this Surah is one of the most recited of the Quran.

1. Wealth and Sustenance: It is believed to attract Allah’s blessings for increased wealth and sustained provisions.

   ‘He who recites Surah Waqiah every night, Poverty or Need will never afflict him.” This is the reason; this Surah is one of the most recited of the Quran.
   
2. Protection from Poverty: Regular recitation is thought to protect against financial difficulties and poverty.
   
3. Intercession on the Day of Judgment: Surah Waqiah may intercede on behalf of the one who recites it regularly, seeking Allah’s mercy on the Day of Judgment.
   
4. Forgiveness of Sins: It is believed that reciting Surah Waqiah can lead to the forgiveness of sins.
   
5. Comfort in the Grave: Recitation is thought to bring comfort and protection from the trials of the grave.
   
6. Barakah (Blessings): Surah Waqiah is considered a source of blessings, bringing prosperity and goodness into one’s life.
   
7. Fulfillment of Needs: It is believed that reciting Surah Waqiah with sincerity can lead to the fulfillment of one’s needs and desires.
